See Contest Rules below.
Theme: This month’s theme is “Heart Shape.” The objective is to creatively capture an 11”x14” photo that fits the theme, taken during February 2020, in a creative style that makes a compelling image. Keep in mind that our final goal is to sell the winning images at our 2020 Gallery Show that benefits our Help Portrait Event in December.
Wild card(s): Heart shape must be obvious in your image. Heart may be in nature or manmade.
No stacking images other than HDR and/or increased depth of field. Image may be edited for basic adjustments such as contrast and color, cleaning sensor dust, but no post processing adding or subtracting elements of the photo. Image may not contain recognizable faces.
Contest Overview:
In an effort to encourage our members to grow and challenge their skills, PHOTOG hosts a monthly themed ‘double-blind’ photo contest whereby both the photo submissions and the voting remain completely anonymous. There are two (2) contest categories available, Novice and Advanced.
Novice – for the beginners, still learning their camera and techniques
Advanced – for the old hands, still learning, yet have honed their skills
Novices that win or place three times are automatically promoted to Advanced. Once submitting in the Advanced category, all subsequent entries will remain in the Advanced category.
The Theme of the Month:
The selected Theme of the Month is posted on the 1st day of the month along with a ‘Wild Card’, specific parameters regarding the current month’s theme. Example, the month’s Wild Card may require: ‘only black & white, no HDR,’ and so on. Photographers are encouraged to submit a photo that not only best represents the theme, but also is technically sound, presented in an artistic way, and worthy of framing for wall art. Because this is a learning exercise, no archived photos are allowed unless mentioned in the Wild Card.
Voting:
Voting will be open the first week of the month through the 16th. Watch for an email generated through our website.
We will vote on each image, in both categories, using the five star system, 5 being the highest score and 1 being the lowest.
The Winners:
The winner for Best Photo of the month along with the first runner-up will be announced on the website at the close of voting. Additionally, they will be recognized and presented with a certificate at our next Library Session. Winning photos and runners-up will be invited to participate in our Annual Gallery Showing at Apertures Photo. See details below.
